Lettuce prices have remained at fairly attractive levels for buyers as demand cyclically softens and winter production recovers. Iceberg lettuce shipments last week rose 3.8% from the week prior but remained subpar. Iceberg lettuce shipments so far this season are tracking 5% below the previous year. The downside price risk in the lettuce markets from here may be nominal. The Florida tomato harvest has continued to be challenged by erratic weather with volumes tracking near 20% below last year’s levels. Historically inflated tomato prices could persist until the chief harvest area shifts north
this spring.
