Food distributor serving Hayward, Wisconsin
Three deliveries a week — Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday — into lake country. Set up for kitchens whose July looks nothing like their February.
Hayward is one of the busiest stops we run, and it is not because of the size of the town. It is the resorts, the supper clubs, the camps and the lake places spread out around it, all of them flat out for four months and quiet for the rest.
Seasonal is a difficult shape for a supplier who wants a flat weekly number from you. It is a normal shape for us. Three deliveries a week is what a kitchen needs in July, when you are guessing on Friday what Saturday will bring and would rather buy twice than freeze the difference. Nobody puts you on a plan that assumes February volumes in July, or July volumes in February.
The other thing about a resort kitchen is that half of it turns over every spring. A new chef who has never ordered from us gets the same walk-through as a new account, because functionally that is what it is.

What comes off the truck
Four groups, thirty-plus brands, one delivery. Centre-of-plate for a Saturday night supper club rush, and the paper and disposables a camp kitchen goes through faster than it expects.
Or search all 6,600 items by name, brand or item number before you call.
Starting an account
Four steps, about a week end to end — and we can move quicker than that if you are opening for a season.
-
Chris comes out
He is in the area anyway. He walks the kitchen, looks at what you already run, and helps you build a first order around it rather than around a catalog.
-
Credit application
One page. Fill it in online or print it — it is read in Superior by someone who can say yes.
Open the application -
Your order guide
The items you actually buy, in the order you actually count them, so ordering takes minutes instead of an afternoon.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
Order by 4:00 PM the day before and it is on the truck.
Questions we get from Hayward, WI
Can you handle the jump from May to July?
That jump is most of what our Hayward routes exist for. Three deliveries a week means you can buy for the weekend you are actually having rather than the one you guessed at on Monday.
We are closed half the year. Is that a problem?
No. The $200 minimum is per order, not per week, and there is no penalty for a slow season or for shutting down entirely over the winter. Tell your rep when you are opening back up and the route picks you up again.
Our place is down a fire lane off a town road. Will the truck make it?
Usually — our drivers have been finding resorts down fire lanes for thirty-odd years. Worth a conversation before the first delivery rather than after it, though, especially in spring.
We are opening a new place for the season. How fast can you get us going?
Faster than a week if it needs to be. The rep comes out, the credit application is one page, and the first order goes on the next truck through. Call rather than fill in a form if you are up against an opening date.
